• IALA Guideline 1010 on Racon Range Performance.  Although this report is about (radar) visibility of radar beacons, or racons, it shows clearly why RTE and racons may be completely invisible to radar at certain ranges (due to an effect called multipath fading).   This is the June 2005 edition provided courtesy of the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities, (IALA).   You can also get the most recent edition directly from the IALA web site but, because the document is presented in a pop-up window, you must turn off all pop-up blockers to access the report directly from the IALA site.
